I am researching James N. Andrews b. 1802 SC and Elizabeth Owens Andrews b. Monroe County and their descendants. James Andrews was previously married to (?) in SC and migrated to AL.

He was living in Conecuh Co. in 1850 with children from the first wife named Nancy, Arra, Caroline and possibly a son or brother named William.

In the home were also children by the second wife (Elizabeth) named Robert, Mary Jane, John, Narcissa, and James.

Later there were two more children born to this union named A. Phillip and Martha.

There was a move to Monroe Co. and a land purchase there about 1855.

I need information on Nancy and William who may have remained in Conecuh Co.

Daniel R. Henderson and Family

Daniel Henderson was born 1815 somewhere in South Carolina. He moved to Brooklyn, Conecuh County, Alabama in 1820 with his father, David F. Henderson. He first purchased land in 1839 in Brewton, Alabama and became Constable that same year. He married Sarah Elizabeth Tippins, daughter of James Augustus Tippins. They had nine children. They were Caroline, John L., Charles, George Tippins, James, William, Phillip H.M., Charlotte, and Daniel Webster. Daniel’s next land purchase was around the Brushy Creek, Lenox area in 1858 where he and Sarah (Eliza) were active members in Brushy Creek United Methodist Church.

When the Civil War broke out Daniel joined the Louisiana Nineteenth Infantry while they were stationed in Pollard, a prominent town in Conecuh at that time. The 19th was stationed there to guard against attack at Mobile and Pensacola. Daniel enlisted in November of 1862, and eventually he and the 19th La. Infantry was sent to Chickamauga, Georgia where they lead the first attack on September 20, 1863. Daniel

received a flesh wound to the right hip and shipped by railway to St. Mary’s Hospital at LaGrange, Georgia where he died 19 days later on October 9th, 1863.

Daniel is buried in the Old Confederate Cemetery on Miller Street. When I found Daniel’s grave site his headstone was in disrepair and barely legible. I requested a new headstone from The United States Government with the aid of Mr. Mike Hanners, the cemetery caretaker. Mr.Hanners, Jeff Gammons, and I installed the new headstone on the 147th anniversary of Daniel R. Henderson’s death.

My great-grandmother was Mary Elizabeth Loe (1895-1974). Her father was John Williams Loe (I have Loe/ Lowe information going back to around 1685) and her mother was Rebecca Reaves (1870-1936). I have Rebecca’s parents listed as Joseph J. Reeves (b. c. 1830 in AL) and Mary E. Franklin (b. unknown) and have no further information on those family lines if anyone could be of help.

I am looking for info on Matilda Gilmore Cooper (b. 1842 d. 1873-74)?? Would like to find date of death, divorce,etc. Would really like to know where she is buried. We have found her on 1860 Census with her parents John Gilmore b. 1808 in N.C. and his wife Mary Temperance (Deen/Dean) Gilmore (b. 1813 in Ga). We found her on 1870 Census with Monroe Ellis Cooper and 2 children, Minnie and John. We know that Monroe married Elizabeth Creamer in 1874 and received guardianship of Minnie and John. We can find no mention of her death and subsequent burial. We have found most of her siblings grave sites. We have not found John and Temperance’s graves. She is not buried with Monroe. How can we find her?

I am trying to trace my roots and the search has lead me to Conecuh County, Ala. The only info I have is a birth certificate of my father, (Edward Donald McKlaine Jr.(born 1913). It states that his mother was Sallie Mae Stallworth (born about 1895)and his father was Edward Donald McKlaine (born about 1892). I would be grateful for any help.

I am in search of any information about Sims Archer which is documented to be father of my g-father, Plez Archer of Old Town, Brooklyn, Rt. D areas of Conecuh County. Plez was born March 10, 1887 in Old Town. Mother, Dora Jones. Plez (Plesant) is listed in 1900 Census under George Jackson and Dora Jackson. It appears that Dora never married Sims Archer, but gave birth to Plez and Rose Etta with Sims Archer listed as father. No information found on Sims Archer at all.

I am currently at a stand still re: the Archer surname. I’m the oldest of Plez’s grand-children and would like to pass this information to other family members. Thanks for your help.

My question is what happened to his mother, father, and sister?

I am look for information on Thomas Jefferson McDonald. I believe he was born July 14, 1870 in Mississippi, and married Martha J on March 9, 1891 in Conecuh County. I have a copy of a 1910 census that lists him, his wife and children living in Repton Conecuh, Alabama. I am trying to find any document that might list his parents. Any information would be appreciated.
